Hollywood East TV

Hey, gang.

Sorry to sound like a snob on my first discussion entry, but I joined this site thinking it was a New England film & TV networking site. After scrolling through the 115 pages of almost 2400 members, it seems more like a social networking site to me. I saw a lot of profiles w/ no pics, w/ too many candids & silly pics, w/o real or stage names listed, w/ locations too far away to have any real vested interest in the Hollywood East movement (c'mon, Germany, really?) & w/ other features that just made me wonder what the heck they're doing here. I'm surprised more of my film friends weren't there; I scrolled through every page & just sent out about a dz. add requests or so. Pardon me for thinking that's a li'l bit f'ed up! C'mon, people; save it for MySpace! It's good to see so many MA & New England people & even people from far away supporting the movement, but it just seemed to me like it wasn't being taken seriously. Again, maybe I'm being too critical, but I just wanted to get it off my chest.

pl&n,
~jay walker.~

You're feelings are not unfounded, though I agree you may not be altogether positive on the situation. Most people here honestly came for Neil C. and co-actors (Kevin, etc), and the audience Neil reaches out to is mostly preteen-teen, the same group accustomed to Facebook and MySpace.

If it bothers you that much, I guess you should just ignore it. Otherwise, if you can afford the time, there are quite a few "gems" of actors in the crowd, that I'm sure will be replying to your other topic in due time. Don't let the "networks" ruin any prospects of good times.

Good luck with your endeavor, by the looks of it, it'll come out a great success.

Hi Jay,

Thanks for joining our site. As Connor mentioned, the international scope of the site's membership is due largely to the appeal of Neil and the New Kids on the Rock. We put up a forum and event calendar so that people could use the site for New England film and television networking, and plan to do more to invigorate that aspect in the future, like regularly posting and promoting events and other opportunities. But we envision Hollywood East as a movement and as a brand of content, the New Kids On The Rock are homegrown South Shore talent that just so happen to have a global audience. As the site grows that will certainly influence the user gen aspects of the site, but that's the beauty of site like this, YOU, the user can make it whatever you want. To paraphrase here, "Be the change you want to see in Hollywood East TV."

Thanks again for joining the site Jay, and I sincerely hope you invite your film friends to join our community as well.

Rich

hi is jay walker your real name or do you have the same manager as ringo?

My full name is Jason, but Jay is shorter & easier to remember, especially when associated w/ the misdemeanor. You think that's wild? You'd love my 6y.o. son ... Luke Sky.

You'd be surprised how powerful a tool this site has been for me, personally. I've gotten extras together, found out about festivals, met new artists in the area, etc. It's really the only way I've found to see just who's out there on the South Shore for film making, and it's really opened my eyes to just how big of a community we could potentially have.

I'm happy to read this. I guess it means I need to work at getting what I'd like from the site. I'm not a good networker.

You can't quite control who wants to use the site and what for, but you can always try and get your film friends to join, and you can do your best to encourage more local film making oriented content on the site.

I've got a showcase for local performing artists on PACTV - Creative Flow, shooting once a month. If you'd like to be on the show, drop me a note. If you know other people who might be right for the show, I'd like to hear about them.

Why don't you, and I, and the people on this site rebrand Plymouth as an artist's colony? Music and film are one of the few remaining American exports, so we've got to nuture local talent. Giving artists a venue is what I'm all about. You?

Ball in your court.

Cheers,

Hey! I am from germany, yes, but why I shouldn´t be interested in this only because I´m from germany? Maybe I´ll went someday to america. Why not? I just look for possibilties for my future. Is that so wrong?

And I am a great fan of the films Hollywood east people made! Why I have to read something like this just because I am a member of this site? WHATS THE PROBLEM?

Same here. I am from Germany but why does that mean I am not interested in Hollywood east? I found this site by coincidence and I luv it. I plan to make a few videos myself but I have no actual idea in the moment (I am sure i will come up with something in a few weeks).

I am interested in filming and especially editing. I would love to do some projects with people but I don't know anyone near my hometown that would participate...

Hi,
This is a very new site. I am sure the content that you are looking for will evolve soon.

I'm not sure how I ended up on this site but had rather thought it was working as a central 'hub' for those that are in the New England area, with the Networking etc forums/discussions for those working on film/tv projects etc.

And then running alongside that there are the 'fun' sections which I kind of thought were open to anyone that was interested in whats going on or what people have created.

Maybe what would help is for some of the threads to be merged as there seem to be some that overlap in their content/theme etc
